Roxie the Little Fawn brings The Froebelian School’s nurturing philosophy to families everywhere

Anna Coulson, The Headteacher of The Froebelian School, Horsforth and a National Leader in Education, has written a new children’s book, Roxie the Little Fawn, a heartfelt story inspired by daily life at one of the UK’s most prestigious independent schools, and its deep commitment to emotional wellbeing.

Beautifully illustrated by renowned local artist John Giles, Roxie the Little Fawn follows the journey of a gentle, shy woodland fawn who discovers her own quiet superpower: the ability to help others feel calm, brave and truly themselves. Through Roxie’s story, young readers are encouraged to understand and value their emotions, recognise kindness as strength, and grow in confidence.

The book, which is perfect for all children aged 3 – 8 years, reflects the Froebelian School’s philosophy that children thrive when emotional development is nurtured alongside academic excellence. John Giles’ evocative illustrations bring warmth, depth and charm to the story, enriching the emotional connection for young readers and perfectly complementing the book’s gentle message.

Early responses to Roxie the Little Fawn have been overwhelmingly positive, with praise from educators, parents and respected figures in business and wellbeing. Reviewers have highlighted the book’s lyrical storytelling, striking artwork and its powerful impact on children’s self-belief and emotional understanding.

Speaking about the launch, Anna Coulson said:  “Every day at Froebelian, I see the extraordinary impact that feeling safe, understood and valued has on a child’s confidence and potential. Roxie the Little Fawn was written to capture that magic, and John Giles’ illustrations bring Roxie’s world to life in the most wonderful way. This is a story about kindness, emotional strength and the quiet power each child carries within them.”

At The Froebelian School, a holistic approach underpins all aspects of education. From mindfulness and movement to strong relationships and values-led teaching, pupils are supported to grow into resilient, compassionate and confident individuals.

“This book is an extension of our school’s heart,” the Headteacher added. “It reflects what we believe: when children feel emotionally secure, they are free to learn, to lead and to become the very best version of themselves.”
